JW was admitted to the V.A. on Christmas Day. Mother and I had prearranged to have the ambulance transport him for failure to thrive. He has not been eating well for the past couple of weeks and was severely dehydrated.
This is very difficult for me. I am fighting for his right to have a respectful life and to be treated with all the human compassion that he deserves. I have already had 2 confrontations with his doctor team at the hospital that I will not agree to have him admitted to a nursing home or a rehabilitation center. In 2011 he was admitted to supposedly the finest rehabilitation center in the area and was treated with no respect and also my Mother was submitted to humiliation and insults. They were trying to keep him for 1 week over the time prescribed and only because MEDICARE would pay for 21 days. I refuse to have anyone dictate to me the medical treatment my Father will receive. You are the only one that can control your medical treatment. I, as my Father's health proxy, am the only one that can stand up for his rights at the moment.
The V.A. in our city is the best place for him to be at the moment. He is comfortable there and not afraid. The personnel treat him with kindness and compassion. He is on the rehab floor and goes just down the hall for P.T.
I am meeting with his doctors team tomorrow and I am asking, if you have a higher power, for prayers. If you do not have a higher power, please send all you positive energy my way.
I will try to get back here in a couple of days to let you know how he is doing.
Alzheimer is a bitch..
