Take your floatation device and put it over your head. Grab the handles on both sides and pull sharply down. That is what this week has felt like so far. Finally someone has thrown me a life line and I have something to hold onto.
Now that we are officially in the "Home Care" program at the V.A. things are starting to move. We have had a nurse pay us our first visit and do a thorough exam on JW. That went very well. Our nurse "Bill" is already scheduled for his second visit and Mother and I are so excited we can't even stand ourselves. Monday we had a social worker come to visit us and she was so encouraging that Mother and I have yet to wipe the smiles from our faces. She praised my Mother so much about the wonderful job that she is doing as care giver that I had to just stop and stare at "Tori". As a social worker she made us feel like we were angels here on earth and my Father was so lucky to have us that she could not ask for a better environment for him to be in. The V.A. are going to put Medic Alert in the house and we are also going to work on a solution for a ramp to get my Father out of the house.
Monday we have a Nutritionist coming and on Tuesday the Occupational Therapist is coming. If you are a care giver I am pleading with you to contact an organization that deals with what ever disease you are dealing with and get help. You cannot imagine what a few kind words of encouragement will do for your psyche.
This is the hand that I have been dealt. The grass always looks greener on the other side of the fence. Once you get there though it still has to be mowed. Do the best you can with what you have. You cannot imagine the rewards that you will receive.
Have a good night.
Phyllis
